Default A Holy Sanctuary
Hi guys! This is my first time posting on these forums, and the first challenge I have written c: It's exciting to me! It's also kind of long. (17 pages on word. . . although, in it's defense, it had about 12 spaces between each different section, so it's a bit smaller then it sounds!)

It's quite structured, and I realize that it isn't for everyone, but I'm sure there is someone out there who will love it! I posted it on a blog website, because it's so long: http://aholysanctuarysims3.wordpress.com/

Here is the storyline:

Choas. The world has turned to absolute chaos. Zombies and monsters have come up out of seemingly nowhere, and have taken most of the world with it. This morning you found yourself running from your home, chased by who knows what. You stumble on the ground and start crawling instead of running, for you can hear the sounds at your back. You figure that for sure you are dead now—but in your surprise you are still living as you reach a wall. You turn around and look behind—the monsters are staring at you from what seems to be the lot line, making angry noises as if they can’t pass. Which leaves you wondering, where the heck are you?

Your back to the wall now, you inch away, staring at the angry monsters. It doesn’t take you long to get to the corner, the monsters following you on the other side of the line, as if it was a mirror. You reach a door before too long. Someone from inside opens it. Immediately you sink back, fearing the worst. However, only a worried human face greets you. “Come in, come in,” It says. “You are safe here.”

“Here? Where is here?” You ask, still confused about why the monsters wouldn’t follow you on to this lot.

“You don’t know where you are? This is a church, child. The zombies and monsters cannot touch this sacred ground.”

I was thinking about how, even with all those Apocalypse challenges out there, that I'd never seen one set in a church, which used to be considered holy ground. They believed the evil couldn't touch it.

So yeah! Check it out, tell me what you think. And if you plan to do it c: It could make a pretty interesting storyline.

I like it. It's clear you have put a lot of effort into this. I'm wondering if somehow I could make this a prequel to a BACC.

Wow! I am just finished generation 2, it was hard at first but once you get into the swing of things and get the ball rolling it gets a bit easier, only a little bit!

Secresa, you probably could! That would likely work well c: And thank you, by the way!

maddstar, that's good to hear! I'm glad you are doing it. What characters do you have (or did you start with)?

I've started now, built my church c: I have a pastor, fighter, architect, handyman and artist. And I just rolled for a new person, and got one i already have, so I can choose. . . I can't decide between a medic and cook. Probably medic. . . Meh, I don't know.

Interesting challenge. I might try it, using a mishmash of some of my favourite fictional characters.

Hopefully, my own impatience won't beat me down this time.

I have no witty comments to mention here.

This looks... insane. But awesome. I might try it if I have the time. The amount of rules might drive me crazy, though. xD

I finally got this thing set up. I'm not going to blog it via story form really, but I did want a record of what happened.

I have a page set up with the lucky starting survivors here. I'm actually pretty happy with the group. There is also the first post for a look at the church they'll be calling home.

I changed the rules somewhat for my personal challenge. I've decided to not have to pay bills. Who would deliver them? However, I decided to limit what I could sell. I'm going to keep the guidelines for selling things like fish and produce, but no art gets to be sold as there wouldnt be much demand for it. The only non-edible items that will be able to be sold are things that could prove useful; i.e. sculptures that are also furniture or inventions.

I also made severe restrictions on selling anything that's old or that I want to change. For example, I'll be converting the classrooms and don't need desks or chairs. Every time I sell/buy something I'm going to do a "leaving the lot" roll since presumably someone would have to go into town to find a buyer or trade partner. I am going to give them a 2-for-1 on that though, so they can haul a piece of furniture down and bring one back on one roll since they were going down to sell or trade in the first place.

We'll see how this goes. So far the biggest problem I'm having is keeping track of who can do what skills. They are going to be starting acquiring some new things soon as well as going off lot to fish and whatnot, so we'll see if everyone makes it!

I'm pretty excited to see what happens in your story Secresa! I restarted the challenge and have gotten: A fighter, handyman, artist, medic and priest so a good roll I think, wish me luck!

Secresa - Those sound like wonderful rule changes c: The only reason I kept the bills was because I wanted there to be some sort of money drain, but if you are changing the money making rules that much then you are right, there is no reason for them. I do the same thing with rolling, they can buy and sell at the same time. For the skills, I just made a simple list with their max skills written on it c:

Let me know how it goes!

Right now, I've got:

Priest
Solider
Architect
Artist
Medic

And the 2nd gen, which are just babies and toddlers right now:

Priest
Solider
And another baby that was just born that I don't know what is yet.

Maddstar and Joelene those sound like great groups! I got lucky and had two duplicate rolls so got to pick two of them. It's hard to think of what to grab first. I thought really hard on the priest, but I do have two good fighting characters so hopefully that blessing won't be necessary. Famous last words....lol

Oh god I am really an unlucky person lol, the odds were not in my favour, They died one by one when they went out because every roll killed one of them >.<

Secresa, the money from the priest was very very helpful in the beginning too c: And I find the blessing thing useful because I use it to send out my non fighters to get rid of the stir crazy moddlet. Although, they still spend a lot of time just living with it!

Seriously, Maddstar? That stinks! I haven't had a single person die. My solider almost did once, but his fighting ability saved him in the end. I did kill off one person, my handyman, because I wanted the room. The poor guy drowned. But other then that, I haven't had anyone die, or even any close calls (other then the one!).

Wow so sorry to hear that! I haven't had anyone die either. My fighter got ambushed on a shopping trip but rolled out of it.

I had a question about money though. I'm assuming all found gems and metals can be sold because they'd be trade bait for scavengers or currency or something? I know we hve to roll to go off lot to collect but I don't remember rules on selling those things. Then again I could have missed it, but it would seem like something ok to be sold.

Lol i'm just an unlucky person aren't I? But yeah I'm going to try again..... I don't think there was any rules on gems and metals as far as I can remember, I would say you can sell it because who doesn't want a diamond in the middle of a zombie apocalypse?! Well I would and it would be good currency since yo wouldn't really use actual money in an apocalypse

How many survivors can you start with, I rolled for five.
I rolled a priest, cook, solider, architect, and engineer.

I will start to set up the game whenever I have time.

I believe it is 5.

Maddstar: I agree with the gems and metals. They'd have value for goods which is the point lol. Hopefully my luck for rolls holds so I can go out and scavenge and fish.

Secresa: I would agree, you may sell them. That wasn't in the rules, no. I don't do much collecting normally, so I just kind of forgot about it. But selling is fine!

dedreav0531: 5 it is c: That sounds like a fairly solid group! Most of them, at least.

This is amazing.
Wow, I'm playing this. Now.

I love how involved this is! This challenge is actually really fun to script ahead of time. Somehow I've rolled for four separate games, and none of them have a Priest or Hunter. -_-
I'm also scripting one that takes place in a massive multi-lot cemetery, rather than a church, using some rules I made up for SN.

This is awesome! I must try it. So far my team consists of a Priest, a Medic, a Teacher, an Engineer and a Welder. Not a terrible team, but I wish I had a Cook or a Farmer.

I've started, but am tweaking a bit. It seems that sims should not be allowed to do any skilling except in their specialist areas, but they do things autonomously at times. Also, I felt it would be realistic to let them harvest wild plants, and then perhaps plant more at home from that produce.

However, I discovered that my world seems to have no wild plants or seed spawners (!) so I gave the household one of each of the four starting plants. If they want variety they will have to buy more fruits by visiting the grocery shop. And I am not letting them plant anything just yet - no one has gardening as an allowed skill. Perhaps I will open up a community lot with plants they can go and harvest, so they don't actually learn gardening but still get the produce. Or I may add gardening as a half skill to someone like the Hunter, or someone who is allowed to cook. I like my sims to practice self-sufficiency!

I wondered about vehicles. Seems difficult for sims to carry a bed home across town. I made two sims go to collect a shower, figuring they could carry it between them. Hooray for sleeping bags - not nearly so bulky as a bedframe!

So; I'm on day three, and so far I have been extremely lucky with my rolls. As I said earlier, I have a Priest, a Medic, a Teacher, an Engineer and a Welder. The priest is named Father John Casey, the medic is named Alexine Alvara, the teacher is named Raina Myra, the engineer is named Valerie Wyatt and the Welder is named Eitan Az. I tried give them all at least one trait that would be considered 'negative' and may make it harder to live in Monster infested world. For example, Raina has the coward trait and Eitan has the loner trait.
So, Day one rolls around and it is a Sunday, noticing that since I have a Priest that once a week I get a 'free' trip out of the churchyard, I made Raina go buy some food. Which is good since my characters seem to like putting food away in the inventory instead of placing the leftovers into the fridge.
Then Day two comes along and I roll a random number. I was expecting the worse, but surprisingly got a 28; meaning I get a Divine Revelation; aka a safe card. So I'm off to a good start. Next, I realize we desperately need a shower. Everyone is already stinky and my two neat sims are flipping out. I roll to send out the Welder to go scavenge one, and I get an eight; so he gets back safely.
So everything is going pretty well, a romance has broke out between Raina and Eitan, Alexine and Father John and becoming really good friends and Valerie already has a few engineering skill points. But we really need a bed. Everyone is taking naps on the couches and it takes most of the day just to get to the halfway point.
