Charity, please check your PMs. I've sent you a code.

smorbie1, I think that Sim File Share is meant more as a Sim- and Simmer-friendly replacement for MediaFire and Box, than as a site for browsing. The couple of things I've shared there so far were just private requests and the like, but when I start sharing stuff properly, I'll put links on my LJ. You do have a point though. If the site isn't meant for browsing, then it's important that people who upload stuff there put links somewhere that's easy to find. LiveJournal, tumblr and the like come to mind. Also, anyone who shares stuff on a site other than MTS, please put an entry in the Free Content Updates section here. A link in your signature is a help too.

I've already requested an invite, but it's taking too long for the site to get back to me. Can someone please send me a code?

OH MAN! you have to be a creator to use this! And I NEED some CC that I have on my DEAD desktop that I could only find on BPS and have NO memory of WHO it was buy or what it's exact name was!!! SHOOT!

Grrrr....ok how do you become a creator? (it asks to see my "creations" on a "URL" so I assume I have to like mesh and recolor and stuff to join and all I do is play for fun. Who knew that just playing the game and enjoying acting out stories you make up in your head with your sims doesn't make you a "simmer" Sigh!)

You need to register if you are a creator to upload stuff. Anyone can download from it if you have the link of the item you want to download.

Once again: you do not have to be a creator to download from the site. You just need a link to the download.
You only need to be a creator if you want to upload to the site.

Charity, I think it only asks for your creations if you're trying to join online yourself. You got an invite code so you bypassed that.

Emma, I'll be more than happy to give you an invite code if it will help you, but I can't see how it will. All that you get by joining is the ability to upload files to share, so if you've got nothing to share, there really is no point in joining. All that I see when I log on to Sim File Share is the couple of files that I've shared there. It doesn't let me browse the site to see what other people have shared, so I'm afraid it won't help you find the BPS stuff you've lost. Justpetro and mustluvcatz are right: you can download anything you want from Sim File Share without joining. In fact I know you can download from Sim File Share, because that's how you got the house that I built for you! It works in much the same way as file share sites like MediaFire and Box, except that it's only for Sims stuff: there's no point in joining any of these file share sites unless you've got something to share.

Sim File Share is very different to MTS. There's no quality threshold like there is here. As I recall the only restrictions are that what you share must be Sims-related and you must not upload other people's creations and claim that they're yours. There are no forums and no need to join unless you are a creator. As far as I know, there's no search facility so nobody will find the stuff you upload there unless you give them a link. If you post the link on a website like MTS, then anybody can find the link and download your stuff, but if you just send the link to a friend in a PM or an email, then you've effectively shared it privately with them (as I did with your house, Emma). So if you've got anything Sims-related (like a Sim or a house) that you want to share with anyone, then I think you've got a legitimate reason for joining Sim file Share. It doesn't have to be very good -- it's enough that you want to share it. But, if you've nothing to share at all, then there's really no point in joining.

Emma, your best chance of recovering your lost CC is to get your broken computer to someone who can extract the data. It will unfortunately cost you unless you know someone who will do it for free, but it might cost less than you think. If the power supply has failed, or even if the motherboard is burned out, it should be relatively easy for a repairer to recover your data from the hard disk. Only if the hard disk itself has crashed, do you have a major problem, but even then there are specialists who can generally recover most of your data. That can be expensive though. Best of luck, and happy Simming! I'll PM you.

: http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=566101 is a thread containing a bunch of laballina's stuff from BPS. I don't know the correct way to spell her name without looking, sorry. Anyway, Emma, I hope you find something you need there.

Yeah I checked it's really NOT that bad! about 99 bucks! however if I remember right my sims stuff is spread out all over that computer it'd be impossible for the tech I found to rescue all of it (I don't need the package files I need the rars zipz and sims2packs damnit! lol) if I remember right there's so many nooks and crannys on there that it'd take them a lifetime! and then they may come way with maybe 70% of it... I wish I was as organized then as I am now.

I'd have to sit or stand there and watch and point out where I think some of it might be and I dunno if they allow that where I'd be going. (Office depot is what I trust, Office depot has saved my desktops life many times. So has my stepdad but let's just say that just because a certain law passed in my state doesn't mean he and my mother accept who and "what" I am so asking him is OUT! it was a good idea though Andrew! it REALLY was!)

however what I CAN do I bet is get them to try and revive it (my whole desktop system) so I can bring it home and sit there and find and pull it all off by hand onto external. it'll have to be external because I think at the LEAST the DVDR burner is shot or dying. last I tried anything the system was so slow you'd think it was trying to get through thick soup or Jello! it's been with me since the early 2000s so it's about done. it's between 10 and 14 years old. all it's good for is reviving long enough to rescue my shit and then I'm having it refurnished (I think that's the word) so it'll be good as new for when my sibs graduate in 3 or 4 years. One's getting my laptop (surely I'll have upgraded by then) and the other is getting the desktop. what THAT will cost and entail is BEYOND me!

Wow, 99 bucks! I haven't found an estimate that cheap. Is it an American company?

office depot i think that's what they quoted!

but i'm sure to wipe and install when I get the new system (YUCK Windows 10!) will be more

and I"m sure when it comes time to refurnish the old one so I can put it in storage until my sibs graduate will be more....

but I do believe they quoted me 99.00 to revive the old one. I'd do the pulling off by hand.

ugh maybe instead of 500 for new computer and 8.1 OS disk (I don't think UC likes 7 ) I should have asked for 299 to get an external drive and revive the seemingly dead old system.....

oh well hindsight and all that I guess.

So I've got an old backup copy of 7 I think will do just fine though I prefer 8.1 which is why I said something.
