[All Games] MTS' McMansion Monstrosity Competition

The year is 2001 and you find yourself with a large windfall after lonely Great Aunt Crumplebottom's demise. You have no taste and like things big and shiny, so the most logical thing to do is build and design your own home. What could go wrong?

Welcome to the MTS McMansion Monstrosity Competition! In honour of the announcement of the Tiny Living Stuff Pack, we decided to go to the other extreme...BRING ON THE MCMANSIONS! From Tuesday the 21st of January 2020 to Saturday the 22nd of February 2020, we challenge you, our loyal architects of all abilities and all game versions to put your tacky, bedazzled construction hats on and get to work on your dream/nightmare McMansion.

As usual, post photos of your creation in this thread, along with a little bit about it if you wish, so that we can all admire the uh...stunning craftsmanship

At the end of this monstrously magnificent McMansionathon, our terrified moderation team will be getting together, voting in fear and awarding unique stickers for the winners of the following categories:

Most Monstrous - Architectural continuity was not adopted in this build! Did your sim even get planning permission for this?
Castle Calamity - This home looks like a castle...from a distance. Hey, is that MDF and fake rendering?
Basic Beige - Taupe, fawn, magnolia, off-white, cream, muslin, sand, linen, caramel, tan; welcome to neutral decor hell! I hear it's making a comeback...
I C U P - Calm down with the open plan living and glass walls, Susan! Your guests (and your neighbours) can literally see you eating your breakfast and more!
Dr. Phil Special Services Award - The man himself would be incredibly proud of this uh...stunning home. A toilet made of driftwood and lambskin? That's an interesting feature!
Bring on the Brutalism - Not all McMansions are McFancy. If angry toddlers could design a house with Legos, this would be it.
Mini McMansion - If McMansions could reproduce, this decked out tiny-house would be their first born. Set on a tiny lot, this space saving soul-sucker has all the mod cons, but not much distance between the TV and the fridge!
Roof-Tiler's Terror - How many different roof types can you fit on the one house? Dormers and gables very welcome. This is what McMansion McDreams are made of.

There will also be a standard sticker for all participants who participate within the allowed timescale!

So with that in mind, let go of your taste level and get building! Just remember that stylish, architecturally sound and tasteful may not win this race!

Need some inspiration? Look no further.

PS: Site uploading standards still apply, so if you decide to upload these horrors to the main site, think twice as they may not survive
8 users say thanks for this. (Who?)

So you're asking me to just do what I normally do, only intentionally?

Okay.

This might be fun. I recently watched an LP of a horror game called Black Rose and I'm feeling kinda inspired.

I remember my parents bickering over which shade of beige was best for the dining room--this should be fun!

I'm currently watching through season 2 of Sex Education and the variety of horrible faux-70s wallpapers in this show is making me feel inspired as hell. Show's basically one giant compilation of the best of half a century's worth of bad taste. And I try so hard with my Sims, but they could never.....

I feel like me trying to put together a submission for this challenge would end up kind of like what happens when a science fiction show has someone ask a robot to divide by zero... it would end poorly for me, at any rate- I've spent too much time training myself NOT to make mistakes that justifiably subject mcmansions to such an unending stream of mockery and derision.

Well, I am looking forward to see these, but since I am still trying to build a decent one, I don't think I can participate. I have to admit that I saw a mansion standing upside down on its towers in my mind

We bought a full new living room in 2007 and it's already slowly starting to feel like a horrible cliché. The creamy beige and soft brownish colours I can appreciate, but the frosted glass ceiling lights and brushed aluminium......
At least we don't have my grandma's interior. Ever seen a bathroom carpeted in mint green? Not to mention the walls done in salmon and the all-wooden kitchen with lavender print tablecloth. That house belongs in a museum.

EDIT: I found a gallery of pictures of a building I regularly drive past, it's in Amsterdam, and I'm really digging the 2000s on display here.

I would have to have this happen in my BACC in TS2 only I have winter to get though before another couple arrives to claim their homestead and they'll likely not be very good at designing a house.Winter is about 10 days long in my games.I won't be able to upload the original build though pictures can be shared because of the tons of CC and hacks used on my family's homes.

OMG! I had a dream just a few nights ago about a mish-mashed multi-level mess of a house (more of a nightmare, really) - it must've been a premonition! Now, I'll have to build the dang thing...

EH heh heh. I live in a 1975 trailer (mobile home, or caravan on a permanent site) and it was updated last in the 1990s. I know. I.... know.. XD Fake wood paneling, soft pastels... It's horrible. I'm working on redecorating, but when I first moved in (the elderly residents left the furniture as part of the purchase), my friend looked around and went "It's like a Sears catalog barfed in here." XD

I have new floors in the bathroom, but the toilet and sink are still pastel blue. Yeah. BLUE.

I've lived in a house with a blue toilet. Like, in-your-face blue. It's all uphill from there.

The 90s were special. I was on a train a few days ago that had bright orange trash cans with lavender seats, and what I can only describe as blue-green camouflage print on the tables. It looked like how puke tastes, only with my lunch and yesterday's newspaper on it instead of the other way around.

And once upon a time I commuted in orange corduroy and brown leather, with cartoon meatballs printed onto the beige walls (if you don't believe me). We were foolish and now this experience is lost to time, existing only in print and as low-resolution photos on the internet. I can't hate it, because someday it'll all be gone and then we'll miss it. And not even Create-A-Style can bring it back.

I lied. Create-A-Style can bring anything back. I just brought camouflage print and corduroy back, and I'm minutes away from developing the world's first meatball sofa.

OMGyes. YES. Born in the mid 70s, so I've seen it all. A lot of it I still like, actually. And yep, you DO miss it once it's gone. And when you see it, it kind of gives you that blend of uncomfortable and nostalgic. I'm sure there's a compound word for it somewhere.

My toilet was avocado green.... So was the bath and the basin - and the wall tiles, and the floor tiles - and....the kitchen!

Default Barbie's Midlife Crisis
Here's my entry for the challenge! It was tough to make it just hideous enough to look good. The backstory for this house is basically that Barbie wanted to build herself a new mansion after breaking up with Ken, so she made the pastel pink nightmare house of her dreams.

It has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a giant garage (the car hole, as McMansion Hell would call it), a pool, a dance floor, and rooms that are way too big. This disaster can be downloaded from the Gallery under the username Adipup (if you dare).

Specifications:
  • Game: The Sims 4
  • Lot size: 50x40
  • Funds: §420,039
  • No CC used

I was just making a - terrible - first version of a Minecraft Woodland Mansion for Sims 2, about to hit the "Creators Feedback" for inspiration (and help, omg), and I saw this. Might just upload my terrible first version here (or perhaps make it worse first?)

This is perfect. I lived in a McMansion as a child in the northern states that defied everything imaginable. I feel inspiration hitting me like a ton of bricks!

One question. How many pics are allowed for a McMansion in this contest?

Okay.

I see it like you need to create a bad house LoL. Your houses are good. That's not count.
First time I see a contest for the worst house. So breathtaking.

Here you can see more of my creations and conversions for sims 3. ;) I`ll glad to see your comments in.

I have to say that even though you got this into McMansion territory, it's surprisingly pleasing to look at, barring the excess of pink.

Well... I've been working on my "nightmare" - my daughter calls it a Cartoon Castle (bless her heart!)
I will admit, it is kinda cute...

Anyway... I've got an adjudication question (or two): Will the Extra Sticker Trophy Categories be awarded one-per-category or one-per-game-per-category? (TS2, TS3, TS4)
And, what if several of the categories are included in one build?
