Mae Lin raised her tear streaked face to look at Elinor.

"What are they? Please help me. please"

Elinor stood apart from what was to happen, she could not save Mae Lin, the spirits would take her and there was nothing Elinor could do about it. She hardened her heart against the womans sobs and whimpers. Closing her eyes was no good she could still see the scene as it unfolded, still smell the decaying flesh.

She remembered only too well what their cold clammy flesh felt like, a shudder ripped through her as Mae Lin cried out pitifully.

There should be a witness to the poor womans passing, she did not deserve her fate, if only she had stayed inside the bathroom a little longer and not seen what had happened to her husband. Or if she had stayed silent.

Opening her eyes she saw the office wall seem to melt opening into a long tiled and dirty passage, the spirits dragged the unfortunate Mae Lin down into the passage, a long streak of fresh blood stained the floor where Mae Lins body passed.

But all too soon it was over, the walls returned shutting off the desperate cries of Mae Lin, it was finished. At least for now.

Elinor took one last look at where the passage had once been then left the room. In the morning she would have to empty the room of the belongings that Mr and Mrs Hastings had left behind. She didn't know how she would explain their disappearance, there was no record of them leaving here...
